Both of these pieces and machine all link together which is explained in further detail by clicking on the images. The "Hommage" was a piece of art which was created using a "plotter" which is the machine you can see in the bottom left which you can go into more detail. But when Frieder was making "Hommage" he got inspired by seeing the "Highway and Byways" and wanted to see if he could figure out how to use logic and machines to create a similar type image only using a plotter meant you had to enter code and see what came out and so it was blind trust between machine and human to make it. By doing these experiments helped Frieder learn how machines are effected by logic

Lev Manovich The language of new media Quotes to analyse
The cameraman who Benjamin compares to a surgeon "Penetrates deeply into its {reality's} web"
From this quote about new media I got that he was saying that new media allows us to see more than previous media allowed and so we can look into things more careful and if following that idea could also describe that with better tech we have been able see things better using new media and tech such as a camera can now zoom from far away and in colour.
The Question:
How old tech vs new tech and how we got to where we are by experimenting
